I have never done this and I am going to be flamed for 'the I know a friend who did'...but one of my GW buddies did this in JQ, never recevied a ban and only got dishonorable. I got so many complaints when I was the GL that I had no choice except to kick him from the guild. It did not stop him and he maxed his luxon title.
It made me mad that Anet let so many folks do this and I hated JQ for it.
Go figure.....

Pros:
you gets lots of faction.
you don't have to do anything.
you don't have to get annoyed at other leechers while farming faction.
Cons:
you get dishonorable a few times... not that it matters because you're AFK/scripting anyway.
As far as an individual goes, the pros clearly outweigh the cons. Thank Anet and have "fun."

Sadly, the pros do outweight the imposed cons. However, the biggest con is living with the knowledge you're a leeching non-contributary scumbag. Unfortunately, many can live with that, how I don't know. I feel bad if I lag and don't get Fallback up soon enough to cap yellow...

Pros > Cons simply because there're too many players that:
a.) legitimately don't know what leeching is and/or fail to report them,
b.) do know what leeching is and just and turn the blind eye (thus not reporting them),
c.) are the leecher themselves.
So in a nutshell, the people are either ignorant, fake ignorance because they're pro-botting (and probably have a fair share of botting, or winning alongside bots themselves), or actively bot while LOLOLing aaaaall the waaaaay hooooome. I've seen so many Searing Flames eles in Random Arenas, and players seldomly report them. Since they never get reported and dealt with, they make it to at least glad rank 3-5 before ever being punished. I've even seen some of those botters type "LOL" while I'm calling them out as botters during gameplay, which tells me that they're completely shameless in their work. It's sad watching them advance through the ranks by way of cheating, and it only ruins the title's prestige. It's reportedly gone as far as into 8v8 with rupt-bots, too.
So, for the botters: Pros greatly outweigh the Cons due to apathetic bot-supporters or truly ignorant players. Not enough /reports go out to put a stop to them, really.

On point-
Yes, the pros are far greater. But, think about the fact that lots of people will dislike you and disrespect you for being a tard.

Who'se more 'tardy, the person actually working for points or the person who'se out enjoying life and leave the tedious sh*t to scripts?
Don't forget, a player can only log so many hours of playtime per day, a script can run indefinitely, so even with the occasional being sidelined for 10 minutes, being @ it for 24 hours will still give the script more points.
Thanks to ANet's non-existent disciplinary system, the economics is well on the side of the leecher.
Not to mention it's a huge game, who'se gonna disrespect you? Just play a diff char and the vast majority of ppl will never know it's you.

I know in FA that pretty much once the "regulars" identify a bot/leecher, that person is marked for life and they're reported on sight with encouragement from other people to do so. Not always, I admit, I have often been the only one reporting one of the two, but it does happen a little bit more than never.
Anyway, when this does happen that just stops the faction gain right then and there for these "people" (I use this term loosely in the case of the botter). This just means they're going to hang around more because they're not getting the faction they want.

No, it's the guy who was 'tardy enough to write the script to get what he wants. Does this guy also pay someone to stand in line for him at the store, pay someone to watch the birth of his child, or pays someone to go pick up his kids at school?
Wouldn't want to interfere on the life enjoyment by pesky necessities.
